Being that I am so impatient, remember I mentioned something about wanting to take a class on learning to sew clothes, well of course I just couldn't wait. I went and picked out a fabric I loved at Cool Cottons, and decided that I better just try to figure this out on my own.
This being my very first time making any sewn garment I was happy to find that the instructions were so easy to follow, I struggled a bit with the invisible zipper, but it might just have been lack of sleep, and my brain saying "stop, you skipped breakfast and lunch, time to take a break."
I am really happy with the way it turned out, and I just love the pockets, super cute! I can't wait to try her other pattern, "Chantilly."
Here it is, "Parfait."
I wish my mom was here so I could show her in person, she would be so proud. :)
Who else are making garments from the Colette patterns? And if sewing isn't, what are you working on right now?
Dinner time!
xoxo.

I am so impressed. I just started sewing garments, as well, but my first go doesn't compare to yours! I sewed a simple a-line with no pattern. I haven't even tried to use a pattern yet. I do start sewing classes next week though! Wish me luck! Luck, luck.
Here's the post I made about my skirt, and other things. http://fitsandstartsandcrafts.blogspot.com/2010/02/dangers-of-unattended-laundry-bin.html
The project I really want to master is layered, screen printed portraits. First try was a fail. Try, try again!
I'm horrible at sewing with a machine, I've been attempting for years but I guess I just don't have a knack for it. Glad to see your success! I'm working on making amigurumi, as usual, but now using vintage and re-purposed materials.
Oh my gosh, I love that!
If I attempted that, it would for sure come out caddywhompus.
I am working on a writing/photo collaboration with a couple girls. Reading their writing, and making photo scenarios from their words.
I love to read your blog, thank you :)
Oh my goodness Silje!! This turned out beautifully!
I just made a purse :) One of Amy Bulter's patterns and I had some help along the way [took a class at the local scrapbook store that just started selling fabric-lovelove!]
I really would like to start making pretty dresses like yours, but I think I need to accomplish a few other things before I attempt clothes :)
Again, super pretty dress! So inspiring!
XO
my goal is to figure out my instruction-less 1920's patterns. basically some tissue paper shapes and a crummy hand drawn picture.... it's like a puzzle
i ordered 2 of their patterns and I'm in the process of waiting for them to come.
I'm about to sew 20 bodybond skirts for my store, so exciting and cute.
I am really impressed - I recently started sewing and this dress would be a totally disaster if I tried to make it! It is great fun, though, practice makes perfect but you must be a natural supertalent!
Have a nice week!
Du er jo norsk jo! Jeg kikket på din flickr, lurte jo litt på navnet ditt, det kan jo ikke være så mange amerikanere som heter Silje? ( Og ikke Siljevanilje, hehe). Ha fortsatt en fin uke!
wow, this looks really cute!
i never used any patterns - and my mum was so proud about my first dress :)
greetings from germany!

That looks so beatiful.I can't believe that this is your first try.I'm so so jealous :D
you did awesome for a first try!
how much fabric does one dress take? im always worried about wasting so much fabric on one project.
Ive made small clothes but not adult sized, ive not used patterns though, im not a fan lol
hope you share more creations!
xx
I just picked up my very first dress pattern and fabric this weekend! I am so excited to get started. Yours looks lovely I can't wait to see the other one!
I love it in that fabric. It really suits you. Colette Patterns does some great designs.
Wow. This is your first? I've been sewing since I was 5 and still can't do patterns like this. However, I'll go ahead and brag. I am AWESOME at hidden zippers. Too bad you are in Oregon and I in SoCal, other wise I'd show ya!
Keep it up and good luck tomorrow!
Wow, this looks so great on you, and I am in love with the fabric you chose! I have such a weakness for pink. Good luck with Chantilly as well, I'm going to be making a new sample of that one soon myself!
I just finished sewing my first pin cushions! I was so happy the way they turned out, that I'm tempted to sew more things... like maybe a fun craft tote.
I'd love to sew my own clothes once I'm more familiar with the machine! Your dress looks great!!
That is totaly beautiful! I am completely impressed!! I just bought a sewing machine and I can't wait to dive in and try to make things as beautiful as your dress.
That dress is ADORABLE! Was it really an easy pattern to use? I've yet to try my hand at sewing a real garment, but this might tempt me to do so...
Are you kidding!!??? :) It is so awesome!!! And way cute on you!! I love that you ignore you brain for food - me too lol same with sleep! Projects first, sleep later!
The dress is just so pretty and perfect for spring! You are awesome! ;) I'm still way intimidated to make clothes, but super impressed!
Great job, Silje! And that fabric is sooo fantastic!!
:D
Wow, it looks stunning and wow that is done in a quilting cotton. it is quilting cotton, isn't it? how do you like the feel and drape of the fabric? I have a ton of quilting cotton but my prior attempts sewing garment with quilting cotton looked so homemade
Whoaa nice job lady! You look beautiful!
Congrats and job well done!
If you can read knit/crochet patterns, then sewing patterns are easy peasy!
I began sewing my own clothes 19 years ago (yikes!)
I don't make clothes anymore (no time) but will again in the future.
I suggest trying lots of differnt pattern brands. Vogue is a difficult one b/c it is so detailed. Trying different brands will help you understand patterns and how they are shaped, worded, etc. It will help you in your quest for your "own" patterns. I once took 3 different pants patterns to make my "own" that fit me just right! and once I made an awlful dress but loved the lower half and I got a great skirt pattern from it! I wish you the best of luck on your new adventure!
Fin! Tihi
Silje,
I nominated you for the Kreativ Blogger Award. Pssh, MUCH deserved! Congratulations!

Oh wow! It's beautiful! I'm hard at work workshopping and writing creative nonfiction (which I am TERRIFIED of because it's the most vulnerable of crafts in the writing world) and I'd love to just take a break from it for a bit. We just wrapped up fiction pieces and found out I am gifted in fiction as well as poetry. Yay!
Wow I am impressed, love the fabric! I don't really know how to sow, but I love fabrics with patterns so I'm gonna start with making some accesories like hair pieces.
Gorgeous dress Silje! Love the fabric x
